Welcome To Kerugoya GoodShepherd Academy Kerugoya

Welcome to The Good Shepherd’s Academy Kerugoya. Your primary school of choice for nurturing your child in the best ideal learning environment, opening the unimaginable pathways of a great future.

We have the 8-4-4 system, which is being closed down, and the competency-based curriculum (CBC), whose implementation and integration have embraced in the school. Both of these are based on the growing Kenyan curriculum. Significantly, because of the school's forward-thinking philosophy and intellectual integrity, academic achievement has been exceptional across Kirinyaga and beyond. Notably, the school has a reputation for being an academic powerhouse turning forth the best students who excel in assessment examinations, including the KCPE. Additionally, we have extracurricular activities that offer learners a variety of engaging and exciting opportunities to gain new skills and engage in relationships that can change their lives. As they get more engaged, they discover their full potential and come to value collaboration. Students perceive themselves participating more and more in debates, sports, and the artistic and performing arts. An excellent illustration is Joseph Wanjau, who at the age of fourteen not only led in the county's KCPE examination but also finished and successfully published the novel Billy in the Robotic Universe. Here, in a setting that fosters inquiry and exploration, a solid foundation for critical thinking and verbalizing is established.

As of the new Kenyan education system (CBC), we have facilities for the Early Year Education (Pre-primary and Lower Primary) and Middle School (Upper Primary and Lower Secondary). Notably, our preschool consists of the Play Group, Pre-Primary One (PP1), and Pre-Primary Two (PP2); and Grades 1 to 9. In the Play group, these are children who have attained the age of 3years. In Pre-primary 1 these are children who have attained the age of 4 years. In the Pre-primary two these are children who have attained an age of 5years. Remarkably, our pre- school teachers meet daily to reflect on ways to support children and their learning as well as to discuss the implementation of the new curriculum to ensure quality learning and care. Our pre-school classrooms allow for a balance between free choice playtime and group activities consistent and responsive to the children’s experiences and interests. Teachers’ build in several whole group gathering times, such as circle time and snacks time as well a sample time for child – directed play through art, music, books, storytelling, riddles and nature exploration.

Our CBC has highly qualified and dedicated teachers who set up a range of activities both indoors and outdoors and provide many opportunities for learning through a curriculum inspired by learners’ interests. In that respect, some of the CBC activities that students are engaged in include farming (for instance rabbit keeping and crop and vegetable growth), Computer classes, resource center-research, equipped labs and so forth. We also offer an array of exciting activities to promote student learning and school spirit. Student achievement and good citizenship is also recognized on a regular basis. Also, our Lab allows our students to be engaged in hands-on learning and developing a mind-set of inquiry in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Teachers have also been working hard to incorporate technology in their lessons to help learning really come alive for our students.

We have cultivated a universal and intercultural diversity through which we can contribute in globalizing the world. Significantly, at Kerugoya Good Shepherd’s Academy we have the infrastructure, the framework and resources to comprehensively deliver a Competency Based Curriculum for global citizens. Further, infrastructure has been modified to suit both the outgoing and incoming curriculums and transport services are available both in the morning and evenings to pick up and drop off students to and from school.

We are always taking in new students, our enrollment desk for interviews is open throughout the terms for both boarding students and day scholars. Please visit the school for enrollment and any other enquiries or send your message via the contact page or through the contacts on this website.
